Tailgate Guys BBQ Show, Epsiode 107: Nikki Rowland, Brian Peyton

Nikki Rowland from the Discovery-Plus show Moonshiners: Smoke Ring

It’s always fun to see new televised BBQ shows roll out and learn about the competitors. On Episode 107 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast, we visit with Atlanta’s Nikki Rowland, a third-generation pitmaster and personal chef who is one of the contestants on the new Discovery-Plus show Moonshiners: Smoke Ring. Nikki tells us about the show and how she learned open-fire cooking from her father and grandfather plus the family specialty of ribs and what makes them awesome.

We also go “Under the Radar” this week with Brian Peyton of the competition team “Meat Me in St. Louis” to learn about his BBQ background, his biggest cooking influence and goals for 2021 after a 13th-place finish in KCBS ribs last year.

Meanwhile, the co-hosts recap their cooking week, as Lyndal reviews cooking a KCBS doubleheader in mid-Missouri against some of the world’s best teams and Steve gives some pointers on reverse-searing steaks and putting the right amount of smoke on a ham just in time for Easter. And it’s baseball season! We talk a bit about that, plus March Madness hoops.

Thanks to our sponsor/marketing partners: Blues Hog BBQ Sauce, Royal Oak Charcoal, The Butcher Shoppe, Iowa BBQ Store, Affordable Income Tax & Payroll, DDR Fabrication and Arkassippi Smoke Live and The Arkassippi Combo. ADVISORY: We have room for one more sponsor. Email lscranton755@gmail.com for details.

Have a great BBQ Week!
