As we steam toward the finish line of 2020 and Season 2 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show, we visit with one of the great pitmasters and personalities of competition cooking plus one of America’s great, locally owned meat suppliers.
Leading off Episode 95 of the show is Kelly Wertz of 4 Legs Up BBQ out of Great Bend, Kansas. The former Jack Daniels Invitational BBQ World Champion with 35 Grand Championships since he began competing in 2003 tells us what cooking in the early years was like compared to nowadays. Imagine stopping at Walmart on the way to a competition to buy all your meat? Yep, Kelly said that was the norm in the old days.
It’s always an honor to visit with Kevin Green of The Butcher Shoppe out of Pensacola, Florida, one of our show’s marketing partners. Kevin tells us about enduring both a pandemic and multiple hurricanes to not only stay in business, but thrive during a challenging year. He also has some meat suggestions for that smoked holiday meal.
Meanwhile, co-host Lyndal Scranton talks about becoming a certified KCBS judge last weekend and what he learned during the experience. He and co-host Steve Koehler also wrap things up with a lightning round of sports talk.
