Congratulations to Joe Pearce and Slap’s BBQ on capturing the 2020 Tailgate Guys BBQ Show “Pitmasters Bracket Challenge.” Kansas City’s SLAPS received 52 percent of just over 6,300 votes cast in the championship match to defeat Travis Clark and Oklahoma’s Clark Crew BBQ in a battle of champion pitmasters.
A virtual tourney with 64 teams saw SLAPS defeat a gauntlet of great teams – American Dream BBQ, Smoke Me Silly, Hot Wachula’s, Boomerang BBQ, Rio Valley Meats (by 11 votes) and Clark Crew – to capture the championship.
Thanks to the teams, and for everyone who participated. We had 81,000 votes cast over the last month in hopefully providing everyone a little bit of fun as real competitions are on hold. I think we can all agree that it would be fun to see top BBQ competitors battle it out, head-to-head in a March Madness format.
We hope to visit Joe on this week’s Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast. We don’t have a trophy to present to him. He already has more than he knows what to do with. But he has virtual BBQ bragging rights until we do this again, tentatively scheduled for January 2021 – just ahead of a new, real BBQ season.
