Phillip Dell wanted to be a chef since the age of 4 and grew up helping his grandfather and uncle cook whole hogs. He’s gone on to blend those passions together with culinary training, cooking at some world-class restaurants and winning his episode (Season 15, Episode 9) of Food Network’s “Chopped,” among several television competitions. On Episode 379 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast, we visit with Phillip about his cooking journey, which now includes winning on several competition circuits including MBN, SCA and KCBS and development of his new Sweet Addiction sauce. The story behind the story of Dell’s journey makes it worth telling as he joins the show for the first time.
Meanwhile, co-host Lyndal Scranton reviews the Tailgate Guys competition team’s failure at a KCBS comp in Branson, Missouri last weekend and previews a quick turnaround to a big doubleheader at Boo-B-Que this weekend. Co-host Steve Koehler checks in with how his seafood quest turned out and previews a Halloween tradition at his house. They also talk Kansas City Chiefs and baseball’s World Series.
