On Episode 4 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast, Lyndal Scranton and Steve Koehler visit with Chris Schafer of Heavy Smoke BBQ from St. Louis, Missouri. Chris captured the biggest win of his competition career last weekend, taking the Grand Championship at the Inaugural KCBS Invitational World BBQ Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The 92-team field consisted to teams that had to either win a Grand Championship or a Reserve Grand in 2018 to quality.
“I’m still waiting for somebody to wake me up; if feels like a dream,” Chris joked with us about the magnitude of the biggest victory of his career. We talked with him about the thrill of the win against many of the world’s best pitmasters, what it meant to share it with his dad and about the powerhouse that is St. Louis-area BBQ.
Also this week, we visited with Brandon Welch of Outdoor Home in Nixa, Missouri.
